Q. How long do the tours last?
A. All tours are approximately 2 ½ hours.
Q. What is the price for each tour?
A. Each tour is $42.00 per person.
Q. Where does the tour meet?
A. All tours meet at our office, located at 40 N. Market Street inside the Rainbow Market. Please arrive 15 minutes in advance for each tour.
Q. When are the tours offered?
A. The Chef’s Kitchen Tour is a specialty tour and is only available on Fridays at 9:15am. The Savor the Flavors of Charleston tour runs once a day, Monday – Saturday at 9:30am and at 2:00pm on Fridays.
Q. How do I sign up for the tour?
A. To make a reservation please visit or call our office at 843-727-1100. We require a credit card number to secure your spot. You can also purchase tickets online at http://www.zerve.com/Bulldog.
Q. Should I make a reservation?
A. Yes! We take a maximum of 12 people on each tour. That’s only 12 people per day. You definitely want to secure a spot for the tour.
Q. What restaurants do you visit?
A. On the Savor the Flavors of Charleston Tour you visit a variety of local eateries, culinary landmarks, restaurants and bakeries. Each stop is essential to understanding the evolution of food in Charleston and why it is so unique. The Chef’s Kitchen Tour takes you to several of Charleston’s finest gourmet restaurants.
Q. Do you provide parking?
A. No, however there are several places to park near our location. There is a parking lot behind our building that charges $8.00 for the day. Another lot, located at North Market and Church Street, charges $1.00 per half hour. Most meters have a two hour time limit and would expire before the tour ends.
Q. Is alcohol provided on the tours?
A. No, Charleston has a strict open container law and there is no alcohol offered at the locations.
Q. What beverages are offered on the tour?
A. Your choice of coffee (regular and decaf), tea, and water.
Q. Should I eat breakfast first?
A. There will be some food offered at various locations, but it will be over a span of 2½ hours. We suggest eating something light that morning.
Q. Is it a full meal?
A. You will receive small samples at various locations that will equal out to a meal over a span of 2½ hours.
Q. How much walking is involved?
A. The restaurants are all within 6 blocks of each other. At most you will cover a mile in the 2½ hour time limit.
Q. Are there places to sit?
A. The tours are primarily walking and standing and there are very few places to sit along the way. Seating is provided on the Savor the Flavors Tour at only a couple of the locations. On the Chef’s Kitchen Tour there is seating provided at the beginning of the tour but nowhere else.
Q. Are there restroom stops?
A. It is best to use the restroom before the tour begins. If there is an emergency, please notify your tour guide and they can point you to the nearest bathroom.
Q. Does the tour end at the same place it starts?
A. The tours end a few blocks from the City Market.
Q. Does the price include food or is that extra?
A. The price includes a sample from various locations given on the Savor the Flavors Tour and on the Chef’s Kitchen Tour. Both tours focus on education and are not necessarily sample oriented.
Q. Are children allowed on the tour, and if so is there a separate price for children?
A. These tours are not recommended for children under the age of 14, and children under the age of 6 are not allowed. There is not a child’s price, therefore they will need a ticket (regardless of age) at $42.
Q. Are there any discounts for seniors, military, AAA or AARP members?
A. Because of the volume of samples provided on the tour we do not offer any discounts.
Q. What is your rain policy?
A. We go rain or shine!
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know 24 hours prior to the tour.
